CMP has an opportunity for all closet wordsmiths out there to
show us their stuff! There are numerous portions of our magazine
that rely heavily on contributions from our readers –
people who know the industry first-hand and can tell stories
that our editorial team just can't. Not only is this a great
way to get your name recognized in the industry, but it allows
you to have a say in the topics CMP covers. Below is a list
of reader-directed sections of our magazine and writer’s
guidelines for each. Sales Tale
Sales Tale is an 800-word story taken from the front lines
of mortgage brokering. It's usually a story of a particularly
unusual deal – something that had a less-than-ideal
customer, an extremely tight deadline, etc. – that was
solved as a result of determination and "mortgage smarts".
If you’ve come across a funny deal, a frustrating deal,
a confusing deal, or a deal that just makes you look really
good – write it down and send it over!
A Day in the Life
A Day in the Life is a 500-word account of a mortgage broker's
typical day-to-day activities. Some of our past submissions
have been accounts of a particularly notable or busy day,
while others summarize an average day. Basically, we just
want a peak into what mortgage brokering is like in your neck
of the woods!
Opinion
Opinion is your chance to get mortgage-related issues off
your chest. What are your great ideas for moving the industry
forward? Where is it lagging behind and how can it improve?
Strong industries grow from a regular exchange of ideas. So
be gutsy – and send us an 800-word account of an industry
issue that you’re passionate about.
News
Have you recently launched a completely innovative marketing
campaign? Website? Event? If you’re running your business
in a way that no one else is – if you have a story that
you believe other brokers can learn from – let us know!
To make it in CMP’s news section, a story must be “newsworthy”
– meaning it has to be more than merely promotional.
If you think it will make others read it and say ‘aha!’
then send your idea/press release to cindy.freiman@kmimedia.ca.
Sales/Business Skills
CMP’s Sales/Business Skills section aims to assist brokers
in building their businesses. If you have some tried-and-true
methods that will help others close more deals, acquire new
leads, retain clients – basically anything that will
help brokers manage their databases and grow their businesses
– pitch your idea (the topic of the story, how you plan
to write it and the details it will include) to cindy.freiman@kmimedia.ca.
Sales/Business Skills features are typically 1,500-1,800 words
in length and are meant to be informative, not promotional.
Marketing
Do your colleagues consider you a ‘marketing wiz’?
Have you implemented innovative and successful marketing strategies
– and care to share them (and your secrets of success)
with the rest of the industry? If so, please pitch your idea
to cindy.freiman@kmimedia.ca.
Marketing features are typically 1,500-1,800 words in length.
